Kursi Java

2010

The seat shell Kursi Java supports different floor sitting positions. Its sitting surface adjusts flexibly to users’ various postures and thereby automatically encourages relieving movements.

The design work is the result of an intensive discussion about Asian and European sitting culture. The seat makes sitting on the floor, still an integral part of daily life in Asia, possible and comfortable for Europeans. Asian sitting culture is now arriving in Europe, just as western sitting culture was imported to Asia a few years ago.

The product was developed in cooperation with a small, family-run craftsman’s enterprise in Bandung, Indonesia. Both the seat’s structure and its
woven sitting surface are made of rattan.
